Tuesday evening was a busy time for the Seeding Committees of the Essex County Baseball, and Softball Tournaments. The baseball tournament, better known as the “GNT” or “Greater Newark Tournament”, seeded 24 teams into their bracket while the softball tournament lists 26 competing teams.

Both tournaments have a “Play In” bracket. The top 14 teams are seeded into the tournament’s First Round. The remaining teams, 10 in baseball, 12 in softball, have a bracket which allows them to play for the 15th or 16th slot in the First Round.

These “Play In” rounds begin on Thursday with their brackets to be completed before Saturday, May 7th, the date of the tournaments’ First Round. You can view the brackets by clicking on our gray “Tournaments” tab and following to “Spring Tournaments, brackets and results”.

The Championship games are scheduled for Saturday, May 21st. The Softball Tournament decides its champion at Ivy Hill Field, adjacent to Seton Hall University, its home for the last several years. In a switch, the GNT championship game will be played at Verona’s field. This move was necessitated by the County closing Bears & Eagles Stadium the tournament’s previous home.
