It was a busy and exciting day throughout Essex County as many County Tournaments as well as the Conference Track Championships were held.
Here’s a quick rundown;
On Friday, at Newark’s Schools Stadium, Malcolm X Shabazz HS won the Independence Division Track & Field Championships for both boys and girls teams. In the Colonial Division it was the Newark Academy girls on top and the West Essex Boys taking home the trophy.
On a very busy Saturday, at Millburn High School, it was Montclair winning both the boys and girls Track & Field titles in the Liberty Division. Seton Hall Prep became the American Division boys champ with Columbia the champion for American Division girls.
In the GNT, Millburn came from behind to avoid the upset and overtook Newark Academy, 9-7, to reach the Championship Final of the Greater Newark Baseball Tournament. In the 2nd Semifinal Round game held at Doc Goeltz Field in Verona, Seton Hall Prep held back a strong effort by Nutley in 4-2 victory.
At the Boys Volleyball Championship Final held at Livingston High School, top seeded Belleville took home the crown breaking up Livingston’s four year reign as County Champs.
In Nutley, it took overtime and a “Golden Goal” for Montclair’s Girls Lacrosse squad to turn back a valiant West Essex team and win the Essex County Championship. At the first game of the championship doubleheader Seton Hall Prep won their third consecutive boys Essex County championship over Montclair.
