The semifinal round of the Essex County Girls Basketball Tournament saw both top seeds eliminated on Thursday evening. In the first game Immaculate Conception, seeded at number 5, easily won over number 1 seeded Newark Tech by a score of 56- 39. The second half of the doubleheader also was a bracket upset. Third seeded West Orange bounced University, the second seed from the tournament by a score of 41-29.

The two winners will face off for the county championships on Saturday at Essex County College. Game time is 1pm.

The second part of the twin bill has the boys championship game between Immaculate Conception (2) and East Side (1). That game has an anticipated start of 3:30pm.
