East Side wrested the Essex County Boys Basketball Championship from Seton Hall Prep on Saturday before a large crowd of spectators at Essex County College’s gym in Newark. The Red Raiders came away with a strong 18 point win in a 60-42 decision. East Side jumped out to a commanding 23-6 lead after the 1st period. Seton Hall played valiantly but could not overcome the initial burst from East Side. This title marks East Side’s third boys’ basketball championship, the previous two coming in 2002 and 2003. Seton Hall Prep had won the tournament three previous years, 2011-2013.
