Today through Saturday marks one of the busiest weekends on the Essex County school sports calendar. The First Rounds of the Greater Newark Tournament (baseball), and Essex County Softball Tournaments shall be played beginning with two games Thursday afternoon played at Nutley. Nutley (4) hosts Newark Academy (13) while Mt St Dominic (2) will be play competing against MKA (15) on the adjacent field. Six other softball games and all eight First Round baseball contests are scheduled for Saturday. Also on Saturday, the Essex County Girls Lacrosse Tournament Semifinals will be held at the higher seeds with Verona (4) traveling to West Essex (1) and Glen Ridge (3) going to Montclair (2). The Boys Volleyball Tournament also has its Semifinals on the slate with Montclair (5) playing at top-seeded Livingston and Bloomfield matching up against Belleville (2).
Back to Friday, and it’s the Essex County Boys and Girls Outdoor Track 7 Field Relay Championships. The meet will be run at Livingston’s stadium with a 4pm start.
